Thompson, CT – On Tuesday night the Winston Modified Tour headed back to Thompson for their makeup race that was postponed on Sunday. Ten of the original sixteen drivers would show up. Dave Melson would pace the field in practice. Jim Windrow a two time champion of the series would set fast time in qualifying with a 20.779 second lap around the historic 5/8 mile speedway. Todd Taylor would be the quickest in final practice. The race would get off to a quick pace only to see it’s first caution of the night for a spin of Matt Smith and Dave Melson, both drivers would drive away without any damage. The green would fly again and would have a 30 lap green flag run with Windrow holding off a strong challenge from Kyle Lawson. Windrow would lead the first 32 laps of the race and then make a pit stop and hand the lead over to Todd Taylor. Taylor would lead 18 laps but then it would become the Kyle Lawson show. Lawson would lead a race high 40 laps and never look back. Holding off a strong charging Taylor, Lawson would see the checker flags wave and take down his first career victory in only his second start. Taylor would finish 2nd, defending champion Chad Barcomb would finish 3rd, Matt Smith 4th, and Jim Windrow would round out the Top 5. Jake Christian in his first career start would finish 6th, Rich Warden 7th, Terry Bombard 8th, Dave Melson 9th and Fred Hill would round out the Top 10! Drivers who weren’t able to make it back to Thompson were given provisional points and are still more than well in the Championship hunt! The Winston Modified Tour will be back in action this Sunday at Monadnock Speedway for the Spring Classic 100! We hope to see you then!
