Rougemont, NC – The Winston Modified Tour traveled to Orange County Speedway just outside of Rougemont, NC for their second race of the season. Ricky LaDuke and Fred Hill would show the way during practice. Ricky LaDuke would set fast time in qualifying with a 12.899 second lap to earn his second pole award in as many races this season. Willimantic, Connecticut native Terry Bombard would secure second in qualifying. The race got off to a quick start but LaDuke would slow down the back stretch on lap one with an ignition problem, handing the lead over to Bombard. Bombard had a strong car and would lead the most laps of the race with 30 laps lead. Bombard would get loose off of turn four and with nowhere to go, Jim Windrow would tag the rear bumper of the 10 car and send him around. This proved to be a beneficial caution for LaDuke who would be able to pit and also would receive the lucky dog to get back on the lead lap. Chad Barcomb would inherit the lead but it wouldn’t be for long. LaDuke would charge through the field and pass Barcomb for the lead with only twelve laps to go. LaDuke would hold off a late race charge from Bombard and secure his first victory of the season. Jim Windrow would finish 3rd followed by Barcomb and Hill rounding out the top 5. Rich Warden would lead 2 laps, and Barcomb would lead a total of 6 laps during the race. Congratulations to Ricky LaDuke on his victory! The Winston Modified Tour will be off this coming Sunday to honor the Labor Day weekend and will be back in action on September 9th at Monadnock Speedway for the Mayhew Tools 100! We hope to see everyone there!
