Thompson, CT – On Sunday July 22nd the Winston Modified Tour made their way to Thompson Speedway for the 11th race of the season. Rich Warden would set fast time in qualifying with a 21.004 second lap around the 5/8 mile facility. The race would see 11 lead changes between 4 drivers and would be slowed 5 times under caution. Jim Windrow would lead the most laps on the night leading 33 laps. Chad Barcomb would work his way back through the field after having some transmission issues on a previous restart earlier in the race. With 12 laps remaining in the race, the final restart would prove critical for Barcomb and catastrophic for Windrow. Windrow would chose the proffered outside lane but Barcomb would get a great jump. The two dragged race down the front stretch into turn 1 and would drag race down the back. Windrow would drift up in 3 and 4 and lose some momentum. Diving into turn 1, Barcomb would take the lead and never look back. Windrow would have a couple of runs at Barcomb but had to be cautious as he had Schilling breathing down his back bumper. Barcomb would go on to lead the final 11 laps of the event and claim his 2nd victory of the season and his 16th of his career on the Winston Modified Tour. Heading to the final event of the season next weekend at Riverside Park Speedway, Barcomb trails Windrow by 3 points. Which team mate will be able to hoist the Championship trophy?!
