Concord, VT – The Winston Modified Tour ended their season Sunday July 29th at Riverside Park Speedway. Entering the final race of the season, Jim Windrow had a 3 point lead over Chad Barcomb. Both drivers had the Championship on their mind. Barcomb had the chance to come from behind and claim his second series championship, while Jim Windrow would try to hold on to the points lead for his fourth series championship. To everyone’s surprise Danny Savary would not be at the track for the second consecutive week. Savary always a dominate force on the tour was missed during the final two weeks of the season. In the absence of a strong car would shine light on another strong car who only make a few stars during the season and that would be the #96 of defending Champion Ricky LaDuke. LaDuke would show up and win practice, qualifying and the race. Mean while Windrow and Barcomb would be in a battle among themselves all night. Windrow would qualify in the 4th position while Barcomb would qualify 5th. Barcomb would work his way to the front of the field and take the lead. While leading the most laps in the race he would secure an extra bonus point that would prove beneficial. Windrow would fight the #12 car all night and never get to the front and lead a lap. With the laps winding down, Barcomb would get caught up with Dave Melson and Windrow would go by on the outside just to get lose and spin to the infield. The flagman felt there was no need for a caution and the race would continue on. Barcomb and Windrow were sitting 5th and 6th as they tried to catch up with just 4 laps to go. Barcomb would hold off Windrow. With leading a lap and the most laps, Barcomb secured two bonus points while finishing one spot ahead would make up the 3 points he was behind Windrow. Series officials knew that the two were tied in points and had to go to the tie breaker procedures. Tie breaker procedures are as follows; Wins, Top 5’s, Top 10’s, Average Finishing Position. Barcomb and Windrow were tied in Points (496), Tied in Wins (2), Tied in Top 5’s (9), Tied in Top 10’s (12) and finally the tie was broken with Average Finishing Position.
